FAQ’s
Q. Can a Notary give me legal advice?
A. No, only an attorney is allowed to give legal advice.
Q. Can I sign the document before the notary arrives?
A. It depends. A document with jurat wording (typically an oath or affirmation) MUST be signed in front of the notary. Documents with acknowledgment wording require only that the signer appear before the notary. They can be signed beforehand. If in doubt, wait until the notary arrives before signing.
Q. What types of Indentification are required?
A. Typically, a current government ID or one issued within the last five years is acceptable. All IDs must include a physical description, photo, serial number and signature.
Q. Are Social Security cards or Marriage licenses acceptable forms of ID?
A. No. They do not meet the above requirement.
Q. Can a faxed document be notarized?
A. Only if it bears an original signature after it has been faxed. Under no circumstances can a faxed or photocopied signature be notarized.
Q. Does the name on the document have to match my ID exactly?
A. Not necessarily. However, the name on the document can be no more than the name on the ID. For example, if the name on the ID is “Jane Ann Smith,” the document can bear the names “Jane Smith,” “Jane A. Smith,” “J.A. Smith,” but not “Jane Ann Taylor Smith” or “A. T. Smith.”
Q. Can you notarize documents outside of Los Angeles County?
A. We have Notaries throughout the United States so we can notarize documents anywhere you need us too.
Q. Can I come to you instead of a Notary traveling to me?
A. Since we are a Traveling Mobile Notary Service, generally that is not practical.
